Understand the method
Work through accounting procedures step by step and understand the reasoning behind the entries.
Accounting becomes easier when the method and the reasoning make sense together. We work through both, one step at a time.
Discuss your subjectI teach A Level Accounting online, with lessons shaped around your exam board, current topics and confidence. We can work through accounting methods, practise calculations and develop your explanations of what the figures mean for a business.
Work through accounting procedures step by step and understand the reasoning behind the entries.
Explain what calculations and financial statements reveal about the business, including their limitations.
Practise accurate workings, clear presentation and written recommendations supported by financial evidence.
These are some of the areas we can work on. Lessons follow your exam board’s specification, with time to revisit the topics you find difficult.
Ledger accounts, trial balances, correcting errors and checking the accuracy of accounting records.
Income statements and statements of financial position, with adjustments for depreciation, accruals, prepayments and inventory.
Sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, together with incomplete records where required by your specification.
Calculate and interpret profitability, liquidity, efficiency and gearing measures, and explain the limitations of comparisons.
Contribution and marginal costing, absorption costing, activity-based costing, budgets and variance analysis, according to your syllabus.
Calculate payback and net present value, interpret the results and evaluate a project using financial and non-financial factors.
Content and assessment vary by qualification. Please share your exam board, syllabus code and exam year so we use the right specification and practice materials.
Accounting exams test more than the final figure. I help students present a method clearly, interpret the information they have calculated and write reasoned recommendations.
We can use past-paper questions, mark schemes and your previous answers to identify what needs attention, then practise under timed conditions when you’re ready.
Use a logical layout, label calculations and apply the formats and terminology expected by your exam board.
Explain what a ratio, variance or appraisal result means for the business and use figures to support the point.
Weigh up financial and non-financial information, recognise limitations and consider ethical issues where relevant to the question.
Read requirements carefully, match the depth of your answer to the marks and build a checking routine for calculations and written responses.
