Use familiar businesses and real decisions to make unfamiliar concepts easier to understand.
Work out how a theory or calculation helps explain the particular business in the question.
Practise analysis, evaluation and the written and quantitative skills your exam board assesses.
These are some of the areas we can work on. Lessons follow your exam board’s specification, with time to revisit the topics you find difficult.
Market research, segmentation, the marketing mix and how demand and competition influence business decisions.
Motivation, leadership, organisational structures, recruitment and managing the workforce.
Sources of finance, cash-flow forecasts, profit, break-even and interpreting financial statements and ratios.
Productivity, capacity utilisation, quality, stock control and the decisions involved in managing production.
Business objectives, strategic choices, growth, managing change and competing in international markets.
Investment appraisal, decision trees and critical path analysis where included in your specification, with practice interpreting the results.
Content and assessment vary by qualification. Please share your exam board, syllabus code and exam year so we use the right specification and practice materials.
Knowing the theory is only part of preparing for A Level Business. I help students use it in case-study answers, develop their reasoning and make judgements supported by the evidence.
We can use past-paper questions, mark schemes and your previous answers to identify what needs attention, then practise under timed conditions when you’re ready.
Identify what the command word requires and judge how much detail is appropriate for the marks available.
Select relevant evidence about the business and explain how it affects your answer, rather than simply repeating the extract.
Explain the steps between a decision and its consequences, consider alternatives and reach a justified judgement about this business.
Show calculations clearly, interpret the result in context and practise allocating time across shorter and extended questions.
